Plasma activities

Plasma-based technology promises a tremendous reduction in size of accelerators used for research, medical, and industrial applications, making it possible to develop tabletop machines accessible to a broad scientific community.

Plasma-based accelerators represent the new frontier for the acceleration of high quality, i.e. high brightness, electron beams because of their capability to sustain extremely large accelerating gradients. Unlike conventional Radio-Frequency (RF) structures, plasma-based ones can sustain electron plasma waves with electric fields several orders of magnitude higher than those achievable with actual technologies.

SPARC_LAB is involved in every aspect of the research, from simulations to the scientific and technological development of the experimental setup.
